By working with Numana, Inc., Aldersgate UMC sponsored a food packaging event in 2015.
Volunteers packaged 21,816 sealed, nutritious meals of rice, soy protein and freeze-dried pinto beans, along with a blend of vitamins and minerals created specifically for malnourished people. Click here for a preview of what a food packaging event looks like. Aldersgate food packages were boxed and then shipped to Convoy of Hope where they were combined with boxes from other food packaging events. Convoy of Hope then sent them on to an area where there was the greatest need for food.
Numana, a non-profit international hunger relief organization, facilitates food packaging events through the country. Each packaged meal, put together in an assembly line fashion, costs 30 cents.
This was a fun, family event with no age restrictions, and jobs for everyone of all ages. We hope to have our second food packaging event in 2017.
